Return, Remember, Learn

Although 2017 has not yet drawn to a close, December is a great time to pause for reflection on what has been accomplished. Also, it is a time to look forward to a new year and new endeavours.

Where did we succeed? – Led by 2017 Chapter President Ronnah Stabenow, along with the Board of Directors and Committee volunteers, the year was full of opportunities for education, great networking, and community involvement. Several members received professional designations which were a goal for the year. Designations are earned with a combination of property management experience, NARPM® and industry education, and service to the association through volunteer activities. The most recent recipients are Brad Larsen MPM®, Bill Williamson MPM®, Adam Acord RMP®, and Annette Slater RMP ®.

What did you learn? – There is always something to learn. From the Texas Style state conference in February to the Broker/Owner Conference in Las Vegas in March and culminating with the National Conference in Orlando in October members heard from top-notch speakers and attended educational workshops. The bi-monthly local chapter meetings also featured phenomenal speakers and education. In addition to the formal education, fellow members are also ready and willing to lend advice and insight. One of the greatest attributes of NARPM members is the willingness to help each other out.

What did we enjoy most? –Networking. While the education is essential, the networking and friendships are a huge part of NARPM. Whether it was rubbing elbows with The Dude and Darth Vader at the Halloween social, having a cocktail and wings together at an NGP event, or playing foosball on a huge 10 person table you could always count on fun being had by all.

What are we proud of? –Being able to give back. This year we were able to help a lot of great organizations. A favourite annual charity is a Habit for Humanity build. It is always great to get out and help to build a home for a deserving family. We had a lot of fun with the Child Safe Cardboard Kids campaign and were pleased to also present them with a donation at our annual holiday party. It was also amazing to be able to provide school supplies to help give children a great start to the school year. In November members travelled to Port Aransas where they were able to provide items for a community Thanksgiving dinner, assist in re-building a fence, paint some seating for a church, and clean the beach.Another fantastic annual event is the toy donation to Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM). Toys and other items are collected for the CAM Christmas store at the holiday party. It is amazing to know that children who may not have otherwise had a Christmas gift will have something under the tree after all.

What are our new goals for the new year? –To keep the momentum going. The 2018 Board was inducted in at the annual Holiday Party on December 5th. Led by 2018 Chapter President Joyce Zimdahl, the upcoming year is sure to be another great opportunity to learn, grow, and give.
