NARPM and SAMAC Bloom in Spring
Happy Spring from the San Antonio Metropolitan Area Chapter of NARPM (SAMAC).
SAMAC was started in 1995 with just a few members and through the years has grown to over 200 members. It is one of the largest chapters nationwide. Property Management is a fast growing industry and our organization provides a unique experience to grow and learn with industry experts.
At our bi-monthly chapter meeting held in March, our 2018 national NARPM president and local SAMAC member, Brian Birdy presented "How to Grow Your Property Management Company NOW!". In this presentation, he discussed valuable steps that anyone can take to grow their property management business. Specific areas discussed were the importance of education, staffing, referrals, facilities, technology, advertising/marketing, networking, and, of course, the importance of being involved in NARPM.
This month, on April 9th through 11th, the Broker/Owner Retreat and Trade Show was held at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This event is designated for brokers, company owners, and major decision makers. The event includes an exhibitor trade fair, educational classes, and lots of networking. It has quickly become one of NARPM®’s most anticipated events. The schedule kicked off with Rehab. What better place than Vegas? Rehab Your Business Forum was set up in the format as a TED talk and was an opportunity to network with and obtain solutions from some the most successful professionals in the industry. Participants walked away with great tips to overcome growth and common challenges in areas such as Technology, Risk Management, Making Money, plus much more. The three-day schedule was packed full of fantastic presentations and workshops based on daily themes. From the Rehab Your Business & Masterminds to Technology and finally Growth and Risk Management participants left with great tools and tips to take back and implement into their businesses.
Also this month, SAMAC participated in REALTOR® Day at City Hall. We represented 10% of the total group of realtors at this inaugural event at city hall. Manny Palaez was a gracious host that made all feel very welcome. Getting face time with council members from District 2, 7, and 8 showed that we all have similar concerns and that each part of the city has its own set of hurdles. SAMAC believes in the value of giving back and community involvement.
SAMAC is proudly supporting Animal Care Services (ACS) Pet Pantry. ACS helps families facing financial hardships feed their pets. They also assist with flea and tick treatments, heartworm prevention, and other pet care items. SAMAC collected donations at our monthly meeting and at local property management offices. Donations are also accepted at the ACS Annex Building. Call (210) 207-6644 for more information.
A group of NARPM members also volunteered this month at the San Antonio Food Bank. Along with fellow volunteers from HEB and Walmart over 42,000 pounds of bread, which they estimated at three hours of work, was done in one and a half. These items will provide over 18,000 meals for our community. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when we work together!
NARPM® is also proudly supporting Casting for Recovery in the annual Past Presidents’ Charity Golf Tournament. The golf tournament takes place during our Annual Convention and Trade Show which will be held in Coronado, CA this October.
The mission of Casting for Recovery (CfR) is to enhance the quality of life of women with breast cancer through a unique retreat program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. Casting for Recovery serves breast cancer survivors of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery, at no cost to participants. The charity was chosen by past NARPM President, Vickie Gaskill MPM® RMP®, who is a breast cancer survivor that experienced an opportunity to participate in 2013 and is committed to bringing the experience to other women. It is a great cause!
